Food&Drink

Find your perfect wedding cake! From watercolors to metallics, we’ve collected the best trends from the past year, and now present them to you in all their iced and flowered glory. We’ve included information about their creators, so you’ll know just where to find the wedding cake of your dreams.

Watercolor Cakes

A watercolor cake is a great way to get a pop of color and wow your guests. These cakes are great for couples with a distinct and personalized color palette, like the coral, magenta, and green one in our feature, Vow Renewal at 2941 Restaurant and Dominion Lighting, from Shelly Pate Photography.

Geometric Cakes

This stunning work of art featured in our Morais Winery Tuscan Styled Shoot is a perfect example of the geometric cake trend. We love how it fits right in to the surroundings, looking like a sculpture on a pedestal at this Italian-inspired venue. It was created by Wild Flower Bakery

Floating Illusion Wedding Cakes

This illusion cake was shown in our feature article from Sylvanside Farm. It was created by Cake Pop DMV, and matched the bride’s classic blue and white color theme. The space between layers is created with a special insert that holds the top layer in place, and flowers are used to cover the upright support. It definitely takes skill to create a floating layer this tall and perfect!

Traditional Stacked Cakes

As much as we love a new idea, you can’t go wrong with a gorgeous stacked wedding cake, covered in delicate pink petals and dotted with pearls. This pastel cake from Lillian Nathalie Cake, pictured here with its creators, is one of the prettiest we’ve ever seen.

Metallic Cakes

Metallic cakes are definitely in fashion, and this textured green and gold cake was the perfect accent to the green and gold Bull Run Golf Club wedding we recently featured. It was created by A Taste of Elegance Catering and Events.

Semi-Naked Cakes

We like icing, but apparently it has it detractors, because naked and nearly naked cakes are still popping up everywhere. This semi-naked cake with a fruit topping (also trending) is the best of both worlds, with enough icing for the kids-at-heart and fruit for rest. Plus, this one is just drop-dead gorgeous. It was created by Sweets By E for a red, white, and blue 4th of July wedding, featured here.
