Independence Day Wedding at The River View

Featured Real Weddings

Helen and Jeremy’s Independence Day reception at The River View at Occoquan was a bold, colorful affair that began with our favorite orange photobus and ended with fireworks over the river. This is the first of two real weddings from River View, one of the most popular and accessible venues in Fairfax. Santa Ana Photography took advantage of the diverse array of shooting spots available at the venue, including a river dock, a forest, grassy gardens and courtyards, and the venue’s own stunning atrium. Read on to see the highlights of this fun wedding.

River View at Occoquan

The River View at Occoquan, run by Nova Parks and Recreation, boasts atrium-styled seating for up to 400 guests, plus additional outdoor spaces.

The couple chose a red, white, and blue color scheme for their 4th of July reception.

Helen and Jeremy found a quiet spot near this historic Scale House on the grounds of the River View. Restored in 2018, the cottage is one of several brick buildings on the site that were once used for brick-making. Read more on this below. The cottage is now available as a Groom’s Suite.

marigold photobooth

Cocktail hour included Marigold Bus and Booth, which has been featured several times in Nova Wedding Style. For this occasion, she was decked out in 4th of July paraphernalia and a set of fun props.

historic beehive kiln at River View at Occoquan

The grounds of the venue provide a number of interesting spots for portraits, such as this historic beehive kiln, one of only a few of its type remaining.

The kiln is over 100 years old and was used to make bricks for the construction of many of the area’s historic buildings, including the Lorton Workhouse Arts Museum (formerly the Lorton Correctional Center). The kiln was operated by incarcerated laborers from the Workhouse, including women arrested during the suffrage movement.

Forest views at River View at Occoquan

Photo opps at the venue include numerous water views, from forested trails to a patio overlooking the river. The wooden arbor belongs to the venue.
