Submit to Northern Virginia Wedding Style
Are you a photographer or vendor serving Northern Virginia couples? Submit your work for consideration! We do not charge for publication. All you need to do is send some information and photos, and your work will be considered.
What Do We Publish?
We will publish anything of interest to NoVa couples or vendors. That includes styled shoots, real weddings, venue photos or information, announcements and news, articles, bridal showers, engagement shoots, product information or photos, information about services – pretty much anything related to weddings in NoVa in any way.
This is NOT an exclusive publication. We don’t care where else the photos appeared. However, if you send something to us, you should not also send it to an exclusive publication unless it complies with their guidelines.
What and How to Submit
General guidelines and requests for photographers: Photos should be full sized, at least 300DPI, and no less than 1200 pixels wide on the shortest side. We also love it if we can download a second version that is websize and optimized for the web, with the following dimensions: minimum width of any photo 1200 pixels; height of horizontal photos should be uniform 800 or 900, and for vertical photos, any height is fine provided width is at least 1200.
Please, if possible, name photos with identifiers instead of just numbers. Ideally, the name or initials of the photographer and the subject of the photo. For example: GWP_RillhurstWeddingShow_1 or MeghanWatson_RiverChase_Ceremony_1. If there is a narrative to your photos, such as a styled shoot or real wedding, naming the photos with terms like “ceremony” or “reception” will ensure we can publish them in an organized way.
Photos should not have watermarks.
In order to have a photo featured in the homepage slider or as a cover, it must be horizontal aspect.
If you are a vendor and not a photographer, just send us your best quality photos and we will work with that. Remember to include the photographer’s name and URL, and make sure they have given permission to publish.
How to Send Photos
We prefer something like a gallery link or submission service if you are submitting many photos at once, although if necessary, a Google drive link shared with admin@novaweddingstyle.com is acceptable. If you submit a gallery link, please remember to include a passcode if needed, and to leave the gallery up until AFTER publication, even if we have already downloaded.
Real Weddings, Engagement Shoots, Bridal Showers, Decor Photos, Product Photos, and Other “Real” Shoots:
Submit 50-500 photos, in various aspects. Accompanying information to include:
- Date and location
- Names and URLs for all vendors whose work is shown
- An explanation of exactly what work came from which vendor (for example, if the chairs belong to the venue, but the tableware was rented, please indicate this with something like “black chargers from X Rental Company” rather than the generic “rentals”). Having vendors write their own explanations is also fine, but please send together.
- First names of couple (if applicable)
- Permission from couple to publish any photos sent to us (if applicable)
- If any photos of children (where faces are recognizable) are shown, we must have written permission from a parent to publish
- Preferred but not required for Real Weddings: We would appreciate a little additional written information, such as comments by the couple on the subject of the various photos, overall theme for the wedding, how they chose the venue and vendors, and whatever else may be relevant. We will edit (rewrite) this for style, so a polished article is not necessary.
- Preferred for Real Weddings, but not required: The approximate cost of the wedding, not including dresses and rings. A budget breakdown, if the couple wishes to provide one, would be wonderful.
Styled Shoots
Submit 50-500 photos, in various aspects. Accompanying information to include:
- Date and location (please be specific about location – i.e. the large field at Rillhurst, or main street in Harper’s Ferry)
- Names and URLs for all vendors whose work is shown
- An explanation of exactly what work came from which vendor (for example, if the chairs belong to the venue, but the tableware was rented, please indicate this with something like “black chargers from X Rental Company” rather than the generic “rentals”). Having vendors write their own explanations is also fine, but please send together.
- A brief narrative explaining the images (it does not have to be publication ready – just so we can tell what’s going on)
- The inspiration and purpose of the shoot
Articles
We accept articles for publication on topics related to Northern Virginia and weddings, including but not limited to venue reports, vendor spotlight articles, advice articles, topics on the NoVa wedding industry, and news about new products or services. We prefer at least one cover photo to accompany an article, but will accept articles without photos provided the article does not really require it (i.e. if it’s an article about a venue, then photos are a must, but if it’s about budget planning, it’s not required). Guidelines for photos are the same as above.
Announcements
If you have an announcement about an event of interest to couples or vendors, please send via email – no html – with a brief description, location/date/time, event url(s) for information or ticket purchase. To ensure timely publication, we’d like to have it at least 30 days in advance.
